Department of History of Architecture
The major collection in this department was built up by Chuta Ito (18687–1954), Tadashi Sekino (1868–1935), and Gaijiro Fujishima (1899–2002) during field investigations in East and Central Asia in the first half of the 20th century. In addition to many old photographic plates of architectural remains in Korea, China, Central Asia, as well as Japan, the department houses plenty of rubbings of old Chinese stone epigraphs and Korean roof tiles. Further, the collection includes measured and colored drawings of ornamental details of old Japanese architecture.
